YOUTH CHOIR

Youth Choir is our senior mixed voice choir for young people across Sale and Trafford aged between 11 and 16 years old. (School Years 7 - 11). We rehearse and perform a varied repertoire throughout the year showcasing different styles, cultures and languages in harmony.

No experience necessary, we welcome any young people into our choir who have a passion for singing!

Through weekly rehearsals our young musicians can develop their singing and musicianship skills in a fun and engaging environment with our staff members who are experts in working with young voices.

Whilst we don't audition for this choir, we do take each new member through a few vocal exercises to find their vocal range and ensure they are singing in the section that best suits their individual voice (Soprano/Alto/Tenor/Bass).

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

Our singers learn a wide variety of songs from different genres which are appropriate for their age and voices alongside likeminded people but singing with an SYC choir is not just about group singing! Our young singers will also progress with their musicianship skills (based on the Kodály method) where they will develop skills such as; music reading, pitching, rhythm, vocal production, music theory and performance.

CHOIR STAFF

CONDUCTOR: Matthew Roughley

A highly experienced choral conductor and music educator who regularly works with many of the UK's leading youth music organisations including; The Halle Youth Ensembles, Opera North Youth Ensembles and the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain.

ASSISTANT CONDUCTOR: Olivia Hamblyn

ACCOMPANIST: Max Macmillan

CHOIR COORDINATOR: Lynne Sarkissian

COST: £6 per rehearsal (paid at the start of each term)
