JUNIOR SINGERS
JUNIOR SINGERS is for children who enjoy singing aged between 7 and 13 years old. (Year 3 - Year 8)
Through weekly rehearsals children will develop their singing and musicianship skills in a fun and engaging environment with our staff members who are experts in working with young voices.
Singing together in a choir has many benefits for children’s development and well-being including; gaining a music education, making friends and boosting confidence through performing.
Singing also helps to develop their skills in literacy, concentration and memory.
WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?
Our singers learn lots of enjoyable songs with children their own age from different genres which are appropriate for their age and voice.
Singing with an SYC choir is not just about group singing! Children will also progress with their musicianship skills (based on Kodály method) where they will develop skills such as; learning to read music, pitching, rhythm, vocal production and music theory.
CHOIR STAFF
CONDUCTOR: Matthew Roughley
A highly experienced choral conductor and music educator who has worked with some of the UK's leading youth music organisations including; The Halle Youth Ensembles, Opera North Youth Ensembles and the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain.
ASSISTANT CONDUCTOR: Olivia Hamblyn
ACCOMPANIST: Max Macmillan

WHAT TO EXPECT?
A friendly environment where your child can learn great music, develop new skills, make new friends and increase their confidence through our professional musical training.
ACCESSIBILITY
SYC is here for every child who wants to sing which means there are no auditions and no previous experience is necessary.
Our staff are experts in working with young voices and will get the best out of every member of SYC.
Our rehearsal venue is fully accessible and parents can choose to stay in our waiting area during rehearsal time or drop off and pick up their child at the end.
WHAT DOES IT COST?
Membership is £5 per rehearsal which is paid online at the beginning of each term or half term.
Your first rehearsal is free!
We want every child to be able to access our choirs no matter their financial circumstance so please contact us if you require assistance with membership fees.
